Cadwell Park Race Report – May 2022

The weekend started with a very early start on the Friday morning where we had a 4 hour journey to the scenic county of Lincolnshire. This was the first time I had been to Cadwell Park and the narrow bike track took some getting use to. I had 5 practise sessions spread throughout the day, these were all heavily interrupted with red flags due to crashes and people hitting the track markers. I was not able to get in a quick lap until the last session of the day, this showed I was right on the pace of the cars around me.

Qualifying didn’t go quite as planned as I kept finding traffic or made little mistakes, this saw me sit in P4 for both races and giving the nature of the track I knew it would be difficult to make much progress.

I got a good start in race 1 which saw me keep my fourth position and soon after the start of the race the top 4 started to pull a gap from the rest of the field, it was during these opening laps where I did the fastest lap of the race and got the new lap record! As the race went on I was right on the tail of the third place car (Tylor Ballard) and started to apply the pressure which led to him running wide on several corners and earnt him a 5 second time penalty. As much as I tried to get past, he was able to put up a great defence which meant I crossed the line in fourth but due to his time penalty I got third.

Race 2 had a hectic start with cars coming together on the first lap, putting Tylor Ballard out of the race. In avoiding action, I had to take to the grass and when I had re-joined I was in fourth behind Jack Chapman. From then on we had a good close battle right until the end of the race, but due to jack making contact earlier in the race he started to lose his coolant on the last lap which caused him to spin on his own fluids on the last corner which allowed me through to third place.

Next up is Silverstone GP on the 11th/12th of June for our biggest event of the year, MG Live.
