Silverstone Race Report – June 2022
Friday testing was limited as we shared the day with someone else instead of doing our normal full test day however, the car ran faultlessly throughout the day. We also found out our old test tyres were quicker than our fresher rubber, we put this down to the older rubber not overheating and therefore keeping their performance.
Midday on Saturday saw me head out for our qualifying session, with temperatures reaching mid 20’s I knew that managing the tyres would be the biggest problem. I got myself to assembly early to prevent myself getting stuck in slow traffic, I wasn’t the first car there which was good as it meant I could use the slipstream from the car ahead. I slowly built up my laps gently bringing in the tyres and as the chequered flag fell, I had managed to claim pole in both races by 4 tenths of a second.
The first race was due to be at 17:30 on the Saturday but due to a major incident in a race prior to us it was then postponed until the Sunday, this meant we had just a two-hour break in between each race.
Race 1 – I got a strong start and managed to get one of the Class A in between myself and Tylor Ballard who was in second place. I managed to hold the Class A behind for the first lap but using his extra power he overtook coming onto the pit straight. From this point myself and Tylor had a great tight and clean battle until the end of the race, unfortunately he got the better of me and I crossed the finish line in second place just three tenths of a second behind him.
Preparing for the second race we realised that the front left wheel bearing had gone so it was then all hands-on deck to get that changed and get the set up back on the car. Luckily, we were able to get everything done with just 20 minutes to spare.
Race 2 – Once again I lined up in the pole position spot and as the lights went out, I got a great start and put two Class A cars between myself and second. From this I managed to pull a small gap from the second-place car of Josh Bromley, I then knuckled down and put in fast consistent laps to increase the gap and it was at this point where I got the new lap record. I was able to cross the finish line in a comfortable first place.
Overall, it was a very strong weekend and managed to bring in a lot of points which has been enough to put me at the top of the championship standings both in class and overall.
